Discover how landscape gardeners from Worcester, Instant Scenery, took home the top prize at the Malvern Spring Show 2025.
At the 2025 RHS Malvern Spring Festival, we collaborated with the acclaimed ROK Design studio to build the show garden ‘Garden of the Wind’. ROK Design led the concept, and we brought the design to life on site, working closely together throughout the build to craft a space that blended artistic vision with technical precision. The garden went on to be awarded a prestigious Gold Medal.
This was our first appearance at the Malvern Spring Show, and the result is a proud milestone for our team as landscape gardeners from Worcestershire.
Based in South Korea, Yun Sunmi has over 20 years of experience in garden and landscape design, creating an impressive selection of projects across residential, urban, and landscape settings in her home country.
Her partner, Lu Wenjuan (Luna), is based in the UK. As no strangers to success, both won Bronze in last year's RHS Malvern Spring Show for their Green Islands garden design.
“Our vision of fostering an environment that mutually benefits ecological sustainability and human wellbeing has guided us to initiate our development within the horticultural industry. The garden design we have developed integrates traditional Eastern aesthetics with contemporary artistic practices.”
We’re an award-winning team of landscape gardeners based in Worcestershire, specialising in all aspects of landscape gardening, including design, maintenance and planting.
Since 2010, we have completed projects across the three counties and beyond, building a reputation for reliability, craftsmanship and horticultural expertise.
For the Malvern Spring Show 2025, our role was to take ROK Design’s vision from concept to reality on site, managing the full build, technical execution and planting installation. Working collaboratively with the designers, we translated their artistic and cultural ideas into a fully realised show garden with precise detailing and a sensitive approach to materials, structure and movement.
As former finalists at The Association of Professional Landscapers Awards in 2024, it was a proud moment to showcase our skills on home soil and see the garden recognised with a Gold Medal.
Combining serenity with wonder, ‘Garden of the Wind’ was designed to be both relaxing and thought-provoking, blending Eastern aesthetics and philosophy while incorporating environmental values.
Our task was to translate this concept into a physical space, basing the experience of the garden on the Korean word for “wind”, which is also a homophone for “hope”. The designers wanted visitors to feel a sense of optimism and renewal within the space, and our role was to build a garden that communicated those emotions through materials, form and planting.
Alongside the spatial and horticultural considerations, we also had to curate the artistic storytelling within the garden, creating an environment that functioned as both a landscape and an open-air gallery of symbolism and movement.
Sustainability was central to the brief, so the garden was constructed with environmentally responsible features:
Gloucestershire-based horticultural specialists and garden experts Leaf Creative supplied around 300 plants for the project. The planting theme was designed around a calming composition of dominant greens accented with purples and whites to bring harmony and visual depth throughout the space.
These key plants included:
In keeping with the designers’ intention to blend aesthetic pleasure with wellbeing and practicality, we also incorporated a selection of edible and medicinal plants as a nod to traditional Eastern garden principles.
Winning Gold at the Malvern Spring Show is a proud milestone for our team and a meaningful moment for us as landscape gardeners working in Worcestershire. Not only was this our first time appearing at the show, it was also an opportunity to demonstrate the level of detail, care and technical skill that goes into bringing a concept garden from design through to a fully realised build.
“Everyone at Instant Scenery is thrilled and immensely proud to win Gold for our build at The Malvern Spring Show. All our hard work, craftsmanship, resourcefulness and dedication truly shone through.”
